Help - Question by Anonymous
My keyboard on windows computer has started acting crazy, malfunctioning different ways when I press keys different things are happening like windows open or wont type the keys. This was working fine, and seems to start out of the blue. I have rebooted multiple times and it seems to work for a bit then everything starts screwing up, very strange and I'm wondering if there is a solution to this?? Any help at all on this keyboard mess is great, thanks.

I'll run through a list of things I would try. I have never seen the scenario you listed above happen so I agree it sounds strange.
1) Reboot but also reboot with shutdown leaving the machine off a few minutes, then turn back on.
2) Do a windows update, my guess is windows update may have screwed something up so a fix may be ready. Reboot after of course.
3) Go to command prompt and right click - run as administrator. Run each command in order and wait for them to finish.
dism /online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
dism /online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth
dism /online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
4) Plug in a different keyboard, if that does the same thing then its not a keyboard problem.
5) Plug the keyboard into a different usb port on computer, maybe the usb port is going bad so need to check this.
6) Go to device manager and go to keyboard, then uninstall device. Reboot computer using mouse and the driver will be reinstalled by windows on reboot. This will eliminate whether the drive was bad.
Hope it helps you!

When you go to device manager, go to keyboard, then use the option to update drivers for anything listed under keyboard. Do this first to see if it fixes it as its an easier solution to try first.

Same here its like if I type a key in a box no key appears, and sometimes a window opens instead when I press the key or file-save option opens instead of the key I'm typing, and sometimes the key typed is just different. Its really strange and I've never seen anything like this before. I tried a different keyboard and unplugged keyboard and plugged back in on different USB port thinking maybe that would fix it but results were the same.

Try this: Go into your control panel settings, then search on keyboard, then start turning stuff off that you dont need, like sticky keys and all the other options you see there. That may help reset stuff that may be causing a problem within the OS.
