Random text message says "hello"

Anyone getting random text messages at times that just say only hello or hi?  It seems like I get one of these every other week. I'm wondering if its someone I know or some type of scam.

Look at it this way, anyone with common sense that would send a text message saying hi from unknown numbers would also add a message saying "this is so and so". Dont bother replying as its a scam otherwise.

Some scams send out random texts as if you reply then they know their message got through and reached you, so you become part of their spamming network.  Dont reply.

Another thing you can do is plug the phone number in on bing or google and see where the area code and city is from, like if you know alot of people in that city or lived there in the past etc. Otherwise ignore the spam text like stated earlier. No one with a brain just sends text messages that say hello or hi.
