I go to my email account and its says no new messages. I know I got them because I get them on my phone. why doesn't it show up on my laptop

That doesnt seem right, are the emails in your spam folder? Do you mean the same email shows email arriving new on the phone but no email arriving when viewing in browser? That doesnt make sense.

Is you incoming set as IMAP on both devices?
If one is set to POP3, it will delete from server.
