I bought a new iphone and setting up my itunes account. It looks like I need a credit card? Even when I download free apps it tells me I need to enter my account information. There has to be something i'm missing

First off you need to signup for a free itunes ID and password, the reason for this is this will be your icloud account and itunes backup account and account for your iphone, etc. Secondly, you do NOT need a credit card. Its nice to enter it if you have it since that saves you the trouble of ever having to enter it again later when you buy an app, rent a movie, etc. If you dont want to enter your credit card then just choose "NONE" on that screen where it asks for credit card information. Thirdly, when you download a free app, you still put in your password but you will not ever be charged as long it says free.
