I assume you are using aol webmail in the browser? I use aol's webmail all the time, they have a really good free webmail but the thing I learned is just download and use their client software, its free and has alot more features.
Get it here http://discover.aol.com/aoldesktop97/
They call it aol desktop but its a good email client and you can paste photos directly into emails and do alot of other stuff, good spam filter too. I also like that you can bounce between different emails in their aol desktop client, so setup one email for personal and one garbage for ordering online or forums (so all spam can go to the garbage email).
Once I used their desktop email it was hard to go back to the aol webmail, and it gives you many more features.
